The school's declared aim is:

to make available to the widest possible range of able boys an educational experience that is the richest, most diverse and most exciting possible in an atmosphere that provides support, encouragement and care for everyone, pupils and staff, here. We want our pupils to love coming here and to go from here prepared for all that human life has to offer.'

These words are not carelessly chosen. We do actually believe in excitement and care. We are also deeply committed to making this opportunity available to all, as our extensive and growing provision of Assisted Places shows. And the vast majority of boys would say, without much prompting, that they do love coming here. Our website is an attempt to capture some of this. There are words and information and pictures, but there are also two sizes of film, a brief trailer and a longer DVD, which can be found in the first drop-down box under School Video. They were both created by two brothers who have left the school in recent years and they are worth watching.

The school replaced A Levels with the International Baccalaureate Diploma in September 2010 and there is a major development programme: the first element, the Sir Paul and Jill Ruddock Performing Arts Centre, opened in April 2012. The new hockey astropitch is now finished and, in September 2013, new teaching areas for science and languages and a new Sixth Form centre were completed. Then, finally, there are already plans for a new indoor sports centre, including a new pool and sports hall. So, there is much to see and plenty to talk about, but the most important thing of all is to come to get some sense of the place, its pupils and how they feel about their lives here.
